Hi Members,

We have now held our yearly Area 42 Show. Several of our members attended, and were well placed: Emily Smith (Slightly Scrambled), Jasmine Punter (Storm Cloud), Hetty Howse (Moonstone Twister), Jessica Chivers (Half Pint), Ann Ring (who also won the Simon Long Trophy for the highest placed Foxhunter), Jubalee Lorne (Frosty), Sam Riddington (Cashback), Katie Smyth (Branie), Roger Collet (Nine Carat), Michael Smyth (Sir Dino), Dorothy Joyce (who won the Magnum of Champagne donated by Jon Jeeves), Georgina Bond (Sir Marco), Liffey Daniels (Dutch Magic and Cherry Imp), Sam Stockley (Wanethco S), Callie Chant (Cassius Clay Z). If I have missed anyone out I apologise. However, a lot of members did not attend and as this Show is put on for the Area we would value their support in future, otherwise it could fold.

We understand that some competitors assumed the ground would be too hard to jump and either withdrew their entries at the last minute or did not enter at all. The site is in fact ‘old turf’, last ploughed up during the Second World War, and I have already received e-mails from competitors who did jump with great compliments on the venue and the hospitality and they will be putting it in their diary for next year. One member from the Midlands was very happy with the going and said she had been to several shows recently where she didn’t even unload Interestingly, the eventers thought the going was perfect!

A lot of hard work goes into putting on the Area shows. This year we will most definitely have made a loss on ours, and the show could be lost forever. I wish to thank all our members who did support us, and of course all our sponsors, as without them it would be impossible to run. Also the very willing band of helpers who gave up their time to help set up the Show, the Course Builder in our Area, Claire Forgacs who donated her fee, as did many of the judges even though they came from different Areas. We also thank Annie Bevins, the Vet on call who attended both days.
